Dress Appointment Core Volunteer

Organization: The Princess Shop Mentorship and Female Youth Development Inc.

Description: Background: The Dress Program is The Princess Shop’s original and flagship program which lends dresses, shoes and accessories to female students in financial and/or social need who are graduating from a primary, secondary or post-secondary institution in Saskatchewan. Since 2007, we have served over 1,300 students across the province. It is our vision that every woman, girl, and 2SLGBTQ+ student can participate fully in their graduation ceremonies, celebrate their accomplishments, and reach their full potential - ultimately impacting these students now and their communities far into the future.     Intent: The Princess Shop is seeking 5 Core Volunteers to conduct dress appointments for the upcoming graduation season. Female graduates are booked in for 1.5 hour appointments at The Princess Shop to select a dress for their graduation. Volunteers welcome the graduate, provide an overview of the dress appointment process, and assist the graduate in trying on and selecting a dress. The Princess Shop has a very small staff team and volunteers are integral to the success of our programs.   Position Term: The position term is January - June. Volunteers are requested to commit to one graduation season to ensure appropriate volunteer coverage for dress appointments for the upcoming graduation season. Volunteers are welcome to return for following graduation seasons and engage in other volunteer opportunities.     Commitment and Expectations:  Commit to 6 hours/week between January - June 2023 Commit to 2 hours for each volunteer shift Have availability on weekdays, weekday evenings and/or weekend days (Saturday and Sunday); shift scheduling will be done in consultation between the volunteer and The Princess Shop’s Program Coordinator   Support: Orientation and volunteer support will be provided by The Princess Shop’s Program Coordinator and experienced Dress Program volunteers. Volunteers will not work alone - there will be a minimum of 2 individuals (volunteers and/or staff) on-site for all Dress Appointments.    Team: Volunteers  will work with The Princess Shop’s Program Coordinator and other Dress Program volunteers. The team will work together to create a reasonable commitment of time and coverage for all involved.    Qualifications: Ability to provide support with understanding, empathy and compassion to individuals who face financial and/or social barriers Ability to provide a safe, caring and inclusive environment for all, including Indigenous, Newcomer, Visible Minority, 2SLGBTQ+ (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning) and other students experiencing financial and/or social need Excellent communication skills Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and applications such as Google Calendar and Google Docs A pleasant manner and patience, as well as drive, determination and passion A willingness to prioritize their responsibilities as a volunteer Ability to work effectively both alone and within a team Personal emphasis on being dependable and a willingness to do what it takes to get results Ability to self-motivate and can motivate others Great attention to detail and is organized Resourcefulness and courage to be able to solve problems on the fly and take initiative   Key Responsibilities: Attend Dress Appointment orientation and training (in-person at The Princess Shop; date TBD)  Provide an official Criminal Records Check with the Vulnerable Sector (letter provided by The Princess Shop to receive check free of charge)  Accept dress appointments when they are scheduled (based on availability as discussed with The Princess Shop’s Program Coordinator) Send appointment reminder to graduates before their appointments as necessary Arrive 15 minutes before the appointment to prepare  At the appointment, welcome the graduate, provide an overview of the dress appointment process Assist the graduate in trying on and selecting a dress Start wrapping up the appointment 15 minutes prior to the end of the appointment After graduate leaves, document the dress selection and file paperwork Notify the Program Coordinator two weeks in advance if you cannot attend a scheduled Dress Appointment Represent our organization accurately and respectfully Maintain the confidentiality of the organization and clients   Reciprocal Benefits: Individuals who volunteer with The Princess Shop receive valuable volunteer experience and Dress Program volunteers get to witness the confidence, empowerment and joy that graduates experience when finding the perfect dress. Our volunteers also have fun and build friendships. Saskatchewan Blue Cross MS Walk Saskatoon

Description: The Saskatchewan Blue Cross MS Walk is a community-driven event for people living with or affected by MS as well as those who want to support our vision of creating a world free of MS. Canadians come together in their communities every May to fundraise for and participate in MS Walk to help find the cause and cure for this disease. As part of the MS Walk Committee you will plan and execute an inclusive, engaging event to connect and empower the MS community in your region. MS impacts all Canadians, which is why we urge people to move forward together at MS Walk and help build awareness for the disease, raising much needed funds to allow us to continue to support people affected by MS.This is a great opportunity to make an impact in your community using your talent and time. MS Walk Stewardship Coordinator The Stewardship Coordinator plays a key role in recruiting individuals and teams to take part in the Walk. In this role, you would be responsible for working with the MS Walk coordinator to ensure that all participants are being stewarded. This will include phone calls as well as emails to local participants. MS Walk Promotions Coordinator The Promotions Coordinator will help get the word out about your local MS Walk through a variety of local marketing and promotions mediums. You will have the opportunity to connect with media sponsors, engage in social media posting, write articles, put up posters, and be creative in how we engage your community in Walk. MS Walk Sponsorship Coordinator The Sponsorship Coordinator is responsible for stewarding the participation of local sponsors to enhance the event experience and keep event costs as low as possible. Through your work as the Sponsorship Coordinator, you will ensure more funds raised go directly to creating a world free of MS. MS Walk Volunteer Coordinator The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the team at the MS Society to ensure we have support from a fantastic group of Day of Event Volunteers. You will have the opportunity to connect with your local community to recruit enough volunteers to fill various volunteer roles and instruct them on event day. MS Walk Route Coordinator The Route Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring our participants have an enjoyable, accessible, and safe route to experience during the event. As the local route expert, your advance planning and execution of Route Coordinator responsibilities on event day will ensure a fabulous event experience for all Walk participants. Lead route signage MS Walk Entertainment Coordinator The Entertainment Coordinator plays an important role in shaping the participant experience on site and on route. This includes organizing entertainment and activities/games and managing the “main stage” and finish line experience to create a positive and memorable event experience for MS Walk participants. Time Commitment: Long term (November– June). Hours will vary based on the size of your community event. Hours will increase as the event approaches. We estimate these roles will take between 1 –3 hours per month. Meet online via Teams once or twice a month Must be available to attend the event at the end of May for approximately 8 hours. Once a week Food Box distribution Support person

Organization: (ICM) River Bend Integrated Community Ministries

Description: ICM relies on volunteers to help feed children, families, seniors, veterans, and other vulnerable neighbours across the core community of Saskatoon. Volunteers would come once a week to help our food box facilitator distribute 40 food boxes. You will be assisting people to access this program to fill out intake forms and then directing traffic to the exit. You may be asked to put bags into the elevator (  distance of 3 feet)and then into the lounge area (10 feet away from the elevator).   The shift is 12 pm- 3 pm on Wednesdays. Volunteering with ICM is a rewarding experience that makes a big difference in the lives of our neighbours. We are so grateful for our volunteers' time, energy, dedication, and support! volunteer advocate - Game changers for achieving the Global Goals by 2030
