Summer Volunteer Reading Guide - Spark Program

Description: Be part of a caring and trained volunteer network that helps children with their reading skills through our one-on-one Children’s Literacy Reading program, Spark. Be a mentor to a child who is struggling with reading while building your resume and practicing leadership skills, time-management strategies, and strong communication skills. Duties: Volunteer Reading Guides follow a structured program to help students improve their reading skills in comprehension, rate, sounding out, and fluency. Volunteer Reading Guides are matched with 1-2 elementary school students in grades 2-4 and meet online on Zoom. The volunteer commitment is 30 minutes - 1 hour per day, four times per week, for 4 weeks (the month of July). Responsibilities: Your first step is to attend an orientation. Our upcoming one will be on May 8th, 12:00-1:00 pm @ Foundations office. To register, please visit our website www.foundationslearning.com. Volunteer Reading Guides then attend a mandatory 3-hour training (May 30th,1:00-4:00 pm @ Foundations office) on reading methods & strategies and will be provided with all resources needed. Join us as a Volunteer Ambassador for the ParticipACTION Community Challenge and help rally Saskatoon towards becoming Canada's Most Active Community! About the Opportunity: As a Volunteer Ambassador, your role will be crucial in spreading the word and encouraging organizations and individuals across Saskatoon to participate in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge. You'll be reaching out to the volunteer coordinator to find out which area should be reached out to. Organizations may include churches, schools, youth groups, long-term care homes, sports clubs, cultural organizations, businesses, so that they are eligible for weekly prizes! Responsibilities: Identify and compile contact information for various organizations and community groups in Saskatoon. Edit already created personalized emails to these groups if needed, explaining the benefits of participating in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge and inviting them to register and take the pledge and attach the ParticipACTION letter pdf to the email. Comfortable reaching out to and interacting with various community organizations. Access to email and internet for communication and research purposes to find email contact/social media contact.
