What is the level of commitment required? As little or as much commitment as you want! Many volunteers come in just once, twice, or simply whenever they are able to. Some volunteers also like to come in regularly. Many people develop close bonds through volunteering! However, there is no pressure to keep volunteering with us if it is not the right fit for you at the moment. Do I need previous kitchen experience or my food safety certificate? Kitchen experience or a food safety certificate is not required to volunteer at the Takeaway Meal (although it certainly won’t hurt!). What will my responsibilities be? As a volunteer, you will be very involved with meal preparation (from buttering rolls, to peeling potatoes, to making a salad), serving the meals to our community (in a socially distant manner) and kitchen clean up but you won’t be doing anything unsupervised as we are lucky enough to have an experienced cook facilitating this program each week!! What should I wear? When you volunteer in the kitchen, please come to your shift wearing closed-toed shoes, pants that come down to the knee and long hair tied back. Aprons, headbands and gloves are provided on-site. You may bring your own ball cap or headband if you like. What day/time are volunteers needed? Wednesday 10:30-2:30 Wednesday 11:00-3:00 *If the shift times above do not work for your schedule or you need a shorter shift, just let us know and we will help find something that works for you!
