The Saskatchewan Cerebral Palsy Association (SCPA) is a registered nonprofit charity focused on helping individuals with cerebral palsy and other disabilities in the province of Saskatchewan. Programs and services offered include member support, recreational, and adaptive equipment subsidies, member picnics, events, and community connections activities. The Board of Directors is the legal authority for the Saskatchewan Cerebral Palsy Association (SCPA). As a member of the Board, a Board Member acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. Board Member is fully informed on organizational matters and actively participates in the Board’s deliberations and decisions in matters of policy, finance, programs, fundraising & resource development, personnel, and advocacy. Board Member – Volunteer is a home-based position, with limited travel required to different locations. Responsibilities: Participate in generative, strategic, and fiduciary discussions to further the mission of the SCPA. Serve as active advocate and ambassador for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission. Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission. Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing and can influence public policy. Approve, where appropriate, and monitor policies, strategic and organizational planning, annual reviews, and other recommendations received from the Board, its standing committees, and Executive Director. Participate fully in one or more committees. Review the bylaws and policy manual and recommend bylaw changes to the membership. Review and approve SCPA’s budget. Give a meaningful personal financial donation. Qualifications and Skills: Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: policy, finance, programs, personnel, and advocacy. Experience in non-profit governance is preferred. Remain up to date on developments in the Board governance and organization’s field. Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies. Term: Board Members are elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Board Members serve for a three-year term. Board Members may be released at the end of the elected term, by resigning, or according to the Saskatchewan Cerebral Palsy Association’s bylaws.
