Our Spark program offers one-to-one reading support for elementary school students in grades 2-4, identified by the school as reading below grade level. The goal of the program is to bring your child’s reading level up to grade level and improve their reading skills and habits. Trained volunteers are matched with 2 students and meet for 30-minute sessions per student twice a week for eight weeks. Spark is a little bit more than just reading practice; volunteers also practice trouble words with your child and build on reading strategies using a variety of games and activities they would enjoy. Volunteers follow a structured program to help students take the next step from foundational, phonemic awareness, to understanding, comprehending, and enjoying what they are reading.
