Saskatoon Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) is looking for volunteers to help in this year’s Point in Time Homeless Count. I am reaching out to see if you or any individuals from your organization would be open to volunteering their time. The Point in Time Count involves surveying and doing observed counts of the homeless population in Saskatoon. The event will be taking place on Thursday, April 28th from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm with shifts of four hours. With training sessions taking place in person on Tuesday, April 26th and online on the 27th from 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 4 pm for three hours – only one training session will need to be attended to participate in the count. We have stationary as well as mobile sites available at various pre-determined locations around Saskatoon. There are many roles for volunteers to take on during the count, including team leaders, surveyors, and staff for the headquarters. The Point in Time Count will provide organizations with a snapshot of how homelessness is affecting those in Saskatoon. While this is not a definite count of the entire population it does provide us with a baseline on how to improve and aid those experiencing homelessness.
