Hello volunteers I am a Social Worker at Autism Services of Saskatoon, posting on behalf of a young adult client LOCATED IN DUNDURN SK who needs a volunteer support person. They are not eligible for community services but due to disabilities they need support with various tasks which may at times be overwhelming for them independently including: Grocery shopping, bank trips, other similar tasks Tidying and organizing household Support in social settings to assert needs, re-word and express self to professionals, etc. Communication in situations where auditory processing difficulties may cause limitations These are only a few areas and other tasks may arise throughout work together. The client has stated they also struggle with physical health, executive dysfunction (i.e. time management, planning, etc.), and burnout. Having another person help manage and initiate these tasks would be a huge help a few times throughout the month or as challenges arise. Note, this IS volunteer and there is not the opportunity for financial or material compensation. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Located in, or willingness/ability to travel to Dundurn SK Own vehicle and ability to transport self Due to disability client would require someone with English as a first language. Ability to utilize other communication systems (email, written, sign language, etc.) as needed is an asset. Client has a service dog, so please consider this when expressing interest if dander allergies or similar is relevant. To facilitate support I, their Social Worker, will be the main first contact for any interested volunteers. You can express your interest and/or direct any questions to Louisa Tomasiewicz at louisa.tomasiewicz@autismservices.ca. I can also be called at (306) 665-4297 (office phone) where you can leave a message and I will return your call. Once we’ve discussed briefly we will then arrange a meeting with the client via zoom to meet each other and chat about goals and needs for comfort before meeting in person. If a police background check can be provided that would be fantastic, but is not required. Cheers, Louisa Tomasiewicz, R-BSW, Autism Services of Saskatoon
