Position Summary & Job Purpose: The Oral History Coordinator plays a critical role in preserving and sharing the history, culture, and experiences of individuals and communities through oral storytelling. This position is responsible for planning, conducting, and archiving oral history interviews, managing project logistics, and collaborating with community members, historians, and institutions to ensure the collection and dissemination of valuable oral histories. Duties & Responsibilities • Assist with the planning and management of the oral history project • Recruit and select interview subjects. • Conduct empathetic and high-quality oral history interviews with recording equipment. • Archive, preserve, and digitize oral history materials for long-term accessibility. • Collaborate with community organizations, historians, and educators. • Promote oral history resources through public presentations and digital platforms. • Ensure ethical practices, informed consent, and confidentiality for interview subjects. • Foster diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the oral history process and materials. Qualifications: • Education or experience in history, anthropology, oral history, or a related field. • Proven experience conducting oral history interviews and managing recording equipment. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse communities. • Familiarity with ethical considerations in oral history work and a commitment to cultural sensitivity. • Proficiency in archival and digital preservation practices. • Exceptional organizational and project management skills. • Competence in relevant software and databases for archival work. • Dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of oral history collection and dissemination.
