Opportunity Description:

I am a Social Worker from Autism Services of Saskatoon offering the opportunity for a volunteer position at the request of my client. I have a female adult autistic client who needs a casual personal support worker. Support may be necessary between 3 and 5 times per month for 1 or 2 hours each time. These will be communicated in advance of need to coordinate schedules. Support needed includes but are not limited to: Helping complete paperwork (i.e. rental applications) Attendance and transport to and from appointments Liaising with professionals at the above appointments if needed, communication support, and related advocacy Helping address stressful unexpected tasks (i.e. utility bill confusion when needing to go into a kiosk/store and discuss with someone new to resolve the issue) Emotional and social support before, during, and briefly following the task if needed Eligibility: English as first language and experience with d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals  Driver’s license and own vehicle with the ability to transport periodically within the city Accepting attitude and some knowledge of ASD in adults Attentive communication and basic advocacy skills – written and verbal Anyone interested can contact myself with further questions or to express interest and be connected with the client.
